Mole’s signature experience is the guided walking safari, setting out on foot with an armed ranger to track elephants, antelope and birdlife across the savanna at close range.
💡 Dawn walks are coolest and best for spotting elephants at the waterholes.
From the escarpment and motel viewpoint you can often watch elephants bathing and drinking at the waterholes below, sometimes without leaving your breakfast table.
💡 The dry season concentrates animals at the waterholes.
Just outside the park stands one of West Africa’s oldest mosques, a striking Sudanese-style mud-and-stick structure dating back centuries, still in use by the village.
💡 Non-Muslims usually view from outside; a small donation is customary.
A community-run eco-village near the park offers canoe safaris on the river, drumming and dancing, and homestays that share everyday rural northern life.
💡 The canoe trip is a peaceful way to spot birds and crocodiles.
The ridge by the motel gives a sweeping panorama over the savanna and waterholes, a magical place for sundowners as the light softens and animals gather below.

Dining at Mole centres on the motel restaurant, serving Ghanaian staples like jollof, grilled chicken, red-red bean stew and fried plantain alongside simple Western dishes, all with that waterhole view. Larabanga and Mognori offer basic local meals and fresh fruit. Options are limited and service unhurried, so bring snacks and plenty of water for long safari mornings.
Travel in via Tamale, settle at the motel escarpment, visit the ancient Larabanga mosque, then take an afternoon walking safari.
Head out at dawn for the best elephant sightings, then visit Mognori eco-village for a canoe safari before the journey onward.
Mole is far north; most travellers fly or bus to Tamale, then drive a few hours on to the park.
November to April concentrates wildlife at the waterholes and makes tracks passable.
Walking safaris with an armed ranger are the highlight and get you remarkably close to elephants.
There are no reliable ATMs at the park; carry enough cedis for fees, meals and tips.
