Eating at Khiran revolves around the resort and marina: cafes and restaurants serve grilled Gulf fish and shrimp, Levantine mezze, burgers and international dishes with views over the canals. Choice thins out on weekdays and outside the winter season, when some places keep short hours.
Many Kuwaiti families rent chalets with kitchens and bring supplies from the city for weekend barbecues, and visitors often do the same. Stock up at a supermarket in Fahaheel or Mangaf on the way south. There is no alcohol in Kuwait, so a cooler of juice and water is the standard beach-day kit.
Khiran is close to the Saudi border, about 100 km south of Kuwait City, roughly an hour or a little more by car on the coastal highway. Public transport is effectively absent, so drive yourself, book a driver, or take a long ride-hailing trip and arrange your return in advance. Once there, the canals and lagoon beaches are best explored by boat or jet-ski hired from the marina.
Khiran is a leisure spot, so costs depend on how much time you spend on the water. Estimates are per person per day in USD.
Weekend chalet prices are much higher than weekdays.
Khiran works best as a relaxed weekend. Arrive on the first morning and leave after the second day’s sunset.
Drive south in the morning, check in to your chalet or resort, and spend the afternoon swimming in the calm lagoon beaches. Walk the marina at dusk to take in the size of the canal network.
Pick up food supplies before leaving the city.
Hire a boat or jet-ski to explore the canals and the open coast, stop for a swim, then finish with a seafood dinner and sunset over the water before the drive home.
