Sigiriya Rock (LKR 4,500; opens 7am) is a 200m climb. The summit is most photogenic in 7–9am light, and the exposed rock becomes dangerously hot after 10am in any season.
Pidurangala Rock (LKR 500; 15-min climb; 10 min from Sigiriya) gives the finest elevated view of Sigiriya Rock itself. Dawn arrival (5:30am) gives the best light and a near-empty summit.
When Sigiriya rangers blow whistles and signal, stop immediately, cover your face, and back away slowly. Running triggers colony defence responses from the rock-face hornet colonies.
