Tips

🏄

Surf Cloud 9 at dawn: the glassiest water and the emptiest line-up before 7am

Cloud 9 (the world-famous right-hand reef break) is glassy and uncrowded before 7am. The dawn barrel is the definitive Siargao photograph. Intermediate surfers can handle it at low tide.

🌊

Check the tide for Magpupungko: the pools disappear at high tide

Magpupungko rock pools (40 min from General Luna; &peso;50) are accessible only 2 hours either side of low tide. Check the Tide Graph app before departing to avoid a wasted journey.

📸

Island hop at 7am: Guyam Island is most photogenic in the morning light

Siargao island hopping (&peso;1,500–2,000/person; Guyam, Naked, and Daku islands) departs 7am for best morning light on Guyam’s coconut-fringed beach. Afternoon tours get harsh midday sun.

🌸

General Luna barbecue strip at 6pm: the most affordable Siargao meal

The General Luna barbecue strip (near the basketball court; from 5:30pm) offers grilled tuna, pork skewers, and rice for &peso;100–200 per person. The most authentic eating on the island.

Leave General Luna by 7:30am for the boat from Del Carmen to Sugba Lagoon (PHP 1,600 per boat, split it; 45 minutes through the mangroves). Paddleboard, swim and jump from the diving deck before the tour groups land around 10am. Time Magpupungko rock pools for low tide on the way back — the clear natural pools only appear when the sea drops. Dinner at the food carts along Tourism Road.

💡 Check the tide table the night before — Magpupungko is only worth it within about two hours either side of low tide.

Day 4
Coconut Road, Maasin River & Pacifico

Rent a scooter (PHP 350–500/day) and ride the Coconut Road viewpoint north — palms in every direction. Stop at Maasin River for the rope swing and the bent-palm photo, then continue to Pacifico for an uncrowded surf or lunch at a beachfront kubo. Loop back via Burgos and Alegria beach if you have daylight left.

💡 Fuel up in General Luna before heading north — stations get sparse past Dapa, though roadside stalls sell Coke-bottle gasoline in a pinch.
