Lusail is Qatar’s showpiece new city, and its food scene is polished and international rather than traditional. Marina-front terraces serve Levantine grills and mezze, sushi, Italian and modern Qatari dishes, while the hotel restaurants around the Katara Towers handle fine dining.
For something more casual, Lusail Boulevard and the Place Vendôme mall have cafés, dessert shops and food halls. Prices run noticeably higher than in central Doha; if you’re on a budget, eat in Souq Waqif and visit Lusail for an evening walk. As elsewhere in Qatar, alcohol is only served in licensed hotel venues.
Lusail is about 15 km north of central Doha. The easiest way there is the Doha Metro Red Line, which ends at Lusail station. From Legtaifiya or Lusail stations, the Lusail Tram loops around the marina, boulevard and residential districts. A single tram or Metro ride costs QAR 2, and a QAR 6 day pass covers both systems. Taxis and ride-hailing are quick outside rush hour.
Lusail is one of the most expensive parts of Qatar. Most visitors stay in Doha and come here for a day or an evening. Figures are per person per day in US dollars, excluding flights.
Evenings on the boulevard and marina cost nothing and are the main attraction.
Book marina tables for sunset on weekends, when the waterfront is busiest.
Yacht charters are usually priced by the hour for the whole boat, so they work out cheaper in a group.
Lusail is best seen in an afternoon and evening, when the heat drops and the boulevard lights up.
Take the Metro Red Line north and walk the Lusail Marina promenade, then head into Place Vendôme for its canal and scheduled fountain show.
Place Vendôme is air-conditioned, which makes it a good refuge in the hottest months.
Walk the illuminated Lusail Boulevard, see the Katara Towers and Lusail Stadium lit up after dark, and finish with dinner by the marina.
Weekends and public holidays bring events and street performances to the boulevard.
