Apr–Oct is the best season (15–22°C; Oudegracht terraces open). Aug–Sep brings the Early Music Festival and Dutch Film Festival. Nov–Mar is cold but the university cultural life is at full intensity.

The Utrecht Stationsplein bicycle parking (12,500 spaces; the world’s largest; free to walk through) is genuinely worth 15 minutes. Three stacked levels of bikes is extraordinary urban engineering.
Utrecht Centraal (direct trains to all major Dutch cities every 15 min) is a superior day-trip base to Amsterdam.
