The R-1 bus (MXN 14; runs 24h along Blvd Kukulcan through the Hotel Zone; the stop at Playa Delfines for the beach; the ADO bus terminal stop for city connections) is the most practical and economical Hotel Zone transport. The ADO bus terminal (downtown, near Parque de las Palapas) serves Chichen Itza (MXN 150 each way), Tulum (MXN 80 each way), Playa del Carmen (MXN 60) and Merida (MXN 200). Uber operates in Cancun (the airport summon workaround aside). The ferry to Isla Mujeres departs from Puerto Juarez (MXN 100 return on the public ferry; avoid the expensive tourist catamarans). Renting a car (MXN 500–1,000/day from the airport) is the most practical option for the cenote circuit.
Dec–Apr is the prime season (26–30°C; dry; low humidity; the Caribbean at its most turquoise). Mar–Apr is Spring Break (very busy; higher prices). May–Jun is a good shoulder with warm water. Jul–Oct is hurricane season and sargassum peak — check conditions before booking.
Cancun ranges from budget-backpacker (hostel + ADO bus to ruins) to ultra-luxury all-inclusive (USD 400+/night). The major excursions are affordable independently: Chichen Itza ADO bus MXN 300 vs USD 80+ tour; Isla Mujeres ferry MXN 100 vs USD 60 catamaran. Per person per day.

The all-inclusive at a mid-range Hotel Zone property (USD 80–150/person/night; the beach, the pool, the drinks, the buffet) gives the best-value Cancun beach holiday if the full package is used: the unlimited bar and the beach.
The Nizuc Resort (Puerto Morelos; the boutique eco-resort 30km south of Cancun; the cenote on-site; the Mesoamerican reef snorkel; the adults-only Ikal spa; Caribbean-facing infinity pool) is the most refined address near Cancun.

Ferry from Puerto Juárez to Isla Mujeres costs 80 MXN each way. Go midweek — Playa Norte beach is empty before 9am.
Gran Cenote and Dos Ojos require early arrival (8–9am) before tour buses. Both fill by 11am in high season.
Read the all-inclusive contract carefully. Branded spirits, beach clubs, and à la carte restaurants are often excluded.
Check sargazo forecasts at visitmexico.com before booking beachfront hotels. May–September is sargassum season on the Caribbean coast.
ADO buses from Cancún to Chichén Itzá run daily (2.5 hours; 200 MXN). Cheaper and faster than organised tours.
