Steep limestone walls rise above the Lumbardhi river. The canyon has via ferrata routes, Kosovo’s longest zip line (about 700m), caves and trails up to mountain villages.

This medieval monastery complex with frescoed churches became the seat of the Serbian Orthodox Church in 1346. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Medieval Monuments in Kosovo”.

The rebuilt Ottoman bazaar (Çarshia) has craft shops, handmade woollen socks, cafés and the Bajrakli Mosque, built in 1471. Nearby, Tahir Bey’s Mansion houses the Ethnographic Museum.

About 15km south of Peja, this 14th-century monastery is known for its marble church and extensive frescoes. It is also part of the UNESCO site.

Try flija (layered pancake cooked under a lid over embers), pite, grilled meats, and dairy from the Rugova mountains. Peja beer is brewed in the city.

Buses run frequently from Pristina (about one and a half hours). Pristina Airport is the main international airport. Buses also connect Peja with Montenegro.
