Sentosa Island is Singapore’s leisure resort — a 500-hectare island connected by monorail, cable car, and boardwalk, housing Universal Studios Singapore (Southeast Asia’s only Universal; SGD 83), S.E.A. Aquarium (the 36m-wide underwater viewing panel; SGD 41), and three free beaches including Palawan Beach, the southernmost point of continental Asia. The entire island is dedicated to entertainment. Book attractions online 2–3 days ahead to save money and avoid queues.

Top Sights on Sentosa Island

Universal Studios Singapore — Southeast Asia's Only Universal

Universal Studios Singapore — Southeast Asia’s Only Universal

Universal Studios Singapore (SGD 83; daily 10am–6pm; 7 themed zones; the Battlestar Galactica coaster — the world’s tallest duelling roller coaster — Transformers 3D, and Revenge of the Mummy are the three essential rides) is the only Universal Studios in Southeast Asia.

💡 Book online 3+ days ahead. Arrive at 10am opening; head straight to Battlestar Galactica (10-min queue at opening, 45+ min by 10:30am). The Express Pass (SGD 50–80) is worth it on weekends when queues reach 90 minutes.

Palawan & Siloso Beach — Singapore's Best Beaches

Palawan & Siloso Beach — Singapore’s Best Beaches

Palawan Beach (the southernmost point of continental Asia; free; the 300m rope bridge to the official marker island; the calmest and cleanest water on Sentosa) and Siloso Beach (beach bars; surf simulator; the most active social scene) are both reached by the free internal beach tram from Beach Station.

💡 Beach tram from Beach Station (free; every 10 min). Swim at Palawan for the cleanest water, drinks at Siloso Beach Club (SGD 15–25). Walk the Palawan rope bridge at 9am before crowds arrive.

Singapore Cable Car — 15 Minutes Above the Strait of Malacca

Singapore Cable Car — 15 Minutes Above the Strait of Malacca

The Singapore Cable Car (Mount Faber to Sentosa; SGD 35 return; 15 minutes above the Strait of Malacca at 90m; the panorama of the PSA container port; the glass-floor Sky Pass at SGD 45) is the most scenic approach to Sentosa and a worthwhile standalone experience.

💡 Take the cable car from Harbourfront Tower (5 min walk from MRT). Depart around 5:30pm for the sunset over the Strait. Take the free Sentosa Express monorail back for variety.

S.E.A. Aquarium — the 36m Underwater Viewing Panel

S.E.A. Aquarium — the 36m Underwater Viewing Panel

The S.E.A. Aquarium (SGD 41; the Open Ocean habitat: a 36m-wide, 8.3m-tall acrylic viewing panel with manta rays and leopard sharks at eye level; 800 species across 45 habitats; the jellyfish gallery in near-darkness) is the finest single aquarium in Asia.

💡 Visit on a weekday morning (10am; before school groups; book online SGD 41 vs SGD 45). The jellyfish gallery is best on iPhone Pro Night mode. Allow 2h for the full circuit including the undersea tunnel.

Eating on Sentosa Island

Sentosa dining ranges from the resort hotel fine dining to beachside casual. Malaysian Food Street at Resorts World Sentosa (the food court with stalls from across Malaysia and Singapore; SGD 5–12 per dish; the most affordable eating on Sentosa within the main resort complex) is the best budget option. The Palawan Beach food village (the outdoor stalls; SGD 8–15) is the most atmospheric for lunch between beach sessions. The Siloso Beach Club (the beach bar and grill; SGD 25–50 per person; the outdoor tables; the beach and the sunset visible from the terrace) is the finest Sentosa evening experience. For serious dining: Osia Steak and Seafood Grill at RWS (SGD 60–120/person; the Australian wagyu and fresh seafood; the most celebrated restaurant in the RWS complex).

Practical Tips for Sentosa

🎐

Book Universal tickets online — it sells out on weekends

Universal Studios Singapore capacity: approximately 20,000 visitors per day; Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, and Singapore school holidays all sell out.

🗺

Cable car in, Sentosa Express back — the best combo

The most varied Sentosa experience: cable car from Mount Faber (the panorama approach to the island; SGD 35 return) followed by the Sentosa Express tram back (free from Beach Station) is the best transport combination.

🚲

Sentosa beaches are free — best value on the island

The Sentosa beaches (Siloso, Palawan, and Tanjong) are free for all visitors after a SGD 4 Sentosa Island entry fee (waived when using Sentosa Express; free when walking the pedestrian boardwalk from VivoCity).

🌡

Visit on a weekday — weekends are overcrowded

Sentosa on Saturday (peak period; Universal queues 60–90 min; beach very crowded; cable car queue 20–30 min at Harbourfront Tower; all food outlets at capacity 12–2pm).

📷

Palawan rope bridge at 9am — best free photo in Singapore

The Palawan Beach rope bridge (the 300m suspension bridge to the southernmost point of continental Asia; SGD 3; open 9am–7pm) is the finest free photography spot on Sentosa. Go at 9am before the heat builds.
