⚠️ Travel advisory: check before you go
In September 2026 the US raised its advice to “reconsider travel” for this region because of tensions involving Iran. Flights and tourism are operating normally, but airspace closures and cancellations can happen at short notice, so keep plans flexible and travel insurance in place.

The restored souq has sections for fish, meat, fruit, dates, pottery, frankincense, silver and traditional daggers. On Friday mornings from around 6:30am, the livestock market fills the area beside the souq as farmers parade goats and cattle for bidding; most locals leave by 9am.
Arrive early on Friday and keep a respectful distance from the animals.
