The 408 steps to Dinant Citadel take 20 minutes. The cable car down (included in the fortress ticket; €6.90 combined) saves the knees. The Meuse valley view justifies the climb.

Anseremme (5km south) rents kayaks for the 13km paddle back to Dinant (3 hours; from €16 per person). The limestone valley cliffs are spectacular from the water level.
