Around 20 baobabs, some over 25 metres tall and hundreds of years old, line the road about 15–20 km from town. Sunset and sunrise are the classic times to visit.

This dry deciduous forest, about 60 km north, is one of the best places to see the fossa, Madagascar’s largest predator, as well as lemurs on night walks.

A UNESCO-listed forest of razor-sharp limestone pinnacles with suspension bridges and via ferrata routes. Reaching it from Morondava takes a long day by 4×4 with river crossings.

Seafood is the speciality: grilled fish, prawns and crab at beachfront restaurants.
Restaurants along the beach road serve Malagasy and French dishes.
Domestic flights link Morondava with Antananarivo, though schedules change often. By road, the RN35 from Antsirabe takes most of a day.
