A narrow passage leads into the cliff, where a small chapel and monks’ cells are carved into the rock, with a balcony overlooking the river.

Minibuses from Chișinău’s Central Bus Station run to Trebujeni or Butuceni in about 90 minutes. Taxis take about an hour, and many day tours combine Orheiul Vechi with wineries such as Cricova.
The site is compact; most sights can be seen on foot in a couple of hours.

A day trip is enough, though staying overnight is rewarding.
