Drive to Jvari Monastery (7th century; UNESCO) first for the bird’s-eye view of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers merging. Then walk down into Svetitskhoveli Cathedral.
Both Jvari and Svetitskhoveli require covered shoulders and knees. Women must also cover their hair. Scarves are available at the entrance for 1–2 GEL.

Mtskheta is directly on the Georgian Military Highway, 20km north of Tbilisi. It’s the natural first stop on a Kazbegi day trip or a standalone half-day from the city.
