Travel Tips

🍟

St Lawrence Market: the peameal bacon sandwich

Peameal bacon on a kaiser bun at St Lawrence Market (South Building, stall 11) costs $7. It’s Toronto’s definitive food experience. Go at 9am.

Niagara Falls: go on the Canadian side at dawn

The Canadian side (Niagara Falls, Ontario) has the better views. Dawn means no crowds and soft light on the Horseshoe Falls. Free to view from the park.

👓

TIFF: September; book tickets early

The Toronto International Film Festival (September) sells public tickets. Rush queues for screenings start 2 hours before. Buy advance passes online in July.

🥩

Kensington Market on a Pedestrian Sunday

Kensington Market closes to traffic on the last Sunday of each month (May–October). Street food, buskers, and the most neighbourhood atmosphere in Toronto.

Toronto in winter: the PATH underground city

Toronto’s underground pedestrian network (PATH) connects 30km of shops, food courts, and transit. Essential in January when -20°C makes street walking unpleasant.

🍳

The peameal bacon sandwich: order two

The St Lawrence Market peameal bacon sandwich is small and exceptional. Order two immediately — everyone who orders one wishes they had.
